IDIQ Series: Supporting School Districts
In our news and insights series focused on On-Call Services and Rotation Lists, we’re highlighting K-12 clients and their innovative contracting approaches and funding mechanisms. Throughout this series, we’ll discuss how our delivery methods and innovative solutions have been able to provide memorable experiences for school districts, as well as the communities that surround them.
Education facilities come with no shortage of surprises – when smaller, unplanned projects arise, districts seek “pools for engineering services.” As a trusted advisor for this type of contract, Dunaway delivers. In addition to our previous work with these types of contracts, Dunaway is currently providing on-call services to Northwest Independent School District, located in Fort Worth, Texas. We understand that having a consultant under contract for on-call services, with business negotiations already in place makes for an efficient method to accomplish a wide variety of important projects.
With the return of students to school this year, many facilities have experienced unprecedented traffic at peak drop-off and pick-up times. Dunaway was able to quickly design and get approved, a temporary bus drop–off loop to reduce the congestion around the site.
”“Dunaway has served Northwest ISD on high priority, short time frame projects for varied situations that develop when least expected,” Discipline Lead in Dunaway’s civil engineering department, Nick Powell, PE explains. “With the return of students to school this year, many facilities have experienced unprecedented traffic at peak drop-off and pick-up times. Keeping Safety First
School districts are constantly challenged to find innovative ways to create a safe and secure environment to protect students and faculty, particularly when it comes to pedestrian and vehicular flow. Through modifications of existing crossing locations and the design of new pedestrian crossings, school districts can put new parking restrictions in place to accommodate vehicle traffic demands where they need it most – during drop-off and pick-up periods for the school.
During design, our multi-disciplined approach also addresses matters such as ADA compliance, extreme temperatures, drainage challenges, in addition to safe pedestrian routes. We believe proactively focusing on these challenges allows faculty and administrators the freedom to concentrate less on their environment and more on their students’ growth.
Dunaway is committed to helping school districts grow by improving the facilities they already have in place. When providing on-call services, our team is adept at providing cost-effective, highly functional solutions for these existing facilities. Whether that involves improving the sidewalks or evaluating traffic flow to expand mobility – through careful planning, we provide an open-ended strategy for facility renovations and modernizations and offer clients due diligence, feasibility, and comprehensive facility assessments to maximize project budgets.
