IDIQ Series: How Infrastructure Connects Us

The IDIQ or indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract provides for an indefinite quantity of supplies or services during a fixed period. Dunaway has a long history of working with the Indefinite Duration, Indefinite Quantity, or “As Needed” delivery method. As a firm, we recognize the value of these contracts and why clients choose to utilize them – to improve contracting procedures and decrease project delivery periods. And when it comes to orchestrating an IDIQ infrastructure project of any size, there is a good chance a civil engineer will need to be involved on the project team.

Civil engineers understand design and functionality, solve problems, and ensure ongoing safety is a priority. One such example of this is the reconstruction of Lynda Court, from Lynda Lane southward, including the cul-de-sac. Dunaway was selected to provide services on the project by Tarrant County as part of their CDBG, or Community Development Block Grant Program funding, one of the longest-running programs of the U.S. CDBG’s identify and fund community development activities through an ongoing process and address such needs as infrastructure, economic development projects, public facilities installation, community centers, etc.

During the Lynda Court project – all facilities needed replacing to provide a better quality of life for the affected homeowners. The project included the construction of 205 linear feet of 6-inch PVC sanitary sewer line, 205 linear feet of 6-inch PVC water line, 126 linear feet of 6-inch reinforced concrete pavement with a 40-foot radius cul-de-sac, 4-foot-wide sidewalk construction, and reconstruction of all driveway approaches.

Dunaway’s Civil Engineers saved both time and money on the project by using City Standard specifications, details, and construction materials for the proposed infrastructure. In addition to implementing our project schedule – which made the overall project more cost-effective – ultimately eliminating unnecessary submittals and review meetings. As Daniel Tremper, PE, Engagement Manager and Principal in Dunaway’s Civil department recalls, “having done multiple CDBG projects for the City of North Richland Hills and Tarrant County, we were able to use standard templates for design, bid phase, and construction admin services to streamline project execution. The year-after-year consistency that our team was able to provide the city was key in getting projects like Lynda Court completed in a timely and cost-effective manner”.
