In collaboration with Birdville Independent School District, Dunaway provided structural engineering and planning + landscape architecture services on a new elementary school for the district. Designed by VLK Architects, Cheney Hills Elementary will be built on-site between two existing schools (Major Cheney Elementary, Richland Elementary) to merge them.

The new building will stand two stories tall with an area of 100,000 square feet designed for the next generation of education with collaborative learning environments. Facilitating new international building code requirements, the school gym will also be designed to host as a shelter from tornadoes, withstanding wind speeds up to 250 mph, and occupy up to 950 people.
