Dunaway’s structural team partnered with BBA Architects for a 100,000 square-foot steel-framed church in Waxahachie, Texas. The project consisted of a 500-seat worship auditorium, a full-size gymnasium, multiple classrooms and offices, and a large mezzanine behind the stage. To accommodate poor soil conditions, the project team designed a structurally isolated two-way concrete slab foundation. Dunaway’s structural team also designed an intricate system of steel moment frames to accommodate the large number of steps in the roof elevation along with multiple fire-rating mandated expansion joints. (Renderings courtesy of BBA Architects.)
