In the summer of 2020, Dunaway was selected to identify the preferred route for the Permian Basin Regional Multi-Use Trail that would unify the communities of Midland and Odessa, Texas.

Previous planning studies identified multiple routes, which were then evaluated with a priority on safety, accessibility, equity, and trail length. Results of this analysis were further developed with the help of public engagement that provided key insights on trail material, expectations of user groups, and other valuable data used by the planning team.

Future work on the project will include assessing land acquisition costs, further route refinement based on detailed study of the proposed corridor, and land ownership research, along with recommendations of implementation and potential funding opportunities.
