For over half a century, Grand Prairie residents and families have enjoyed outings, community gatherings, and grand outdoor spaces at Turner Park. Because of its natural beauty and historic importance in the community, it exhibited the potential to become the City’s “Legacy Park”; a place to be cherished by local citizens and visitors throughout our region.

The new master plan preserved the site’s history, rolling terrain, and old-growth shade trees while providing upgraded destinations and experiences to invigorate visitors. The plan included a signature Nature Education Center with Texas Plaza featuring the relocation of Turner Park’s iconic stone Texas Sculpture; a Celebration Grove with open space, pavilions, baseball field tribute art, and other public art pieces; a renovated Sesquicentennial Gazebo on the shore of a new pond; stone terrace plantings; and a high point pavilion overlooking the water.

Phase I included an 8-foot wide concrete trail loop, parking lot, entry gateway, prefabricated pavilion at the playground, 2-5 and 5-12 playground components, poured-in-place safety surfacing, two prefabricated shade fabric structures, one prefabricated restroom building with water and sewer service, one prefabricated pavilion at the baseball tribute area, site furniture, landscape, and irrigation system.
