Q+A

Why did you choose this career?

I've always been interested in building design, math, and problem-solving. After earning a bachelor's degree in architecture, I decided structural engineering would be a better fit to satisfy my need for more unambiguous problem-solving. I enjoy being involved in the building design process as a structural engineer.

What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any interesting hobbies?

I like listening to music, going to live music shows, playing tennis, coaching youth basketball, reading non-fiction books, and hanging out with my 11-year-old son.

Do you have a favorite holiday?

I don't really have a favorite holiday. I find unplanned days to be just as special and often more interesting and exciting. But I do like the spirit of the winter solstice holiday, using the shortest day of the year as a time for celebration and renewal.

What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?

A healthy newborn boy in 2012.

What was your first job?

I was a newspaper delivery boy for the Milwaukee Sentinel when I was 12. I woke up at 5:00 every morning and walked my route, delivering the paper to 30+ houses in the neighborhood.
