Bohls Middle School was designed concurrently with Pflugerville Elementary School, both situated on the same site as the existing Weiss High School. The design of these buildings aimed to create symmetry across the site. The middle school features a single-story athletic and fine arts wing, complemented by a two-story classroom and administrative wing at the front. Due to the flat terrain, the team had to step the building to ensure proper drainage. The highly expansive soils necessitated the use of a structural slab over voids. The rest of the superstructure is steel-framed with composite floors and steel-braced wind frames.
Additionally, Dunaway provided the civil design for an adjacent running track and sports field. Dunaway’s civil team managed the site plan permitting through the City of Pflugerville and offered construction support throughout the development of both school campuses.
