Paula Walker Elementary School

Dunaway provided structural engineering services for the new Paula Walker Elementary School in Royse City. Located at 1274 Crenshaw Road, this state-of-the-art school offers a nurturing environment for students from kindergarten through 5th grade. Designed with the future of learning in mind, VLK Architects and Dunaway partnered to focus on vibrant colors and collaborative spaces to enhance the educational experience. The campus includes areas that encourage students to work together and maximize their learning potential.

The school spans 104,000 total square feet and is a two-story building with a structural steel frame. The design features a curved floor plan with a centrally located two-story library, which includes a rock wall and a wooden slide for a fun way to get from the upper to lower levels, leading to the outdoor collaboration space. Additionally, the school’s gymnasium serves as a storm shelter.
