Located in Melissa Independent School District, Willow Wood Elementary is a new 78,000 square-foot one- story elementary school. Dunaway provided structural engineering services on the project which features an 8,000 square-foot concrete storm shelter located in the middle of three classroom wings that branch off the main admin/support space building.

The project design focused on a natural look with a wood deck and glulam beams spanning between custom wood and steel trusses located in the cafeteria and library. The wood deck and glulam beams continued through the spine of the building (the corridor) which pops up above the rest of the structure with clerestory windows down the full length to bring in natural light.
